Detailed Rules

Please note: the latest changes are marked red.

Registering / Logging in:

We require all players to register a (permanent!) ogros.org server account here if you don't already have one. It protects your name and/or clantag on all ogros.org, TC, pCc and PSL servers and requires you (or anyone attempting to play under your name) to log in within 30 seconds after you connected to one of the servers. All players are required to be logged in all the time during the games, so all mechanisms work properly (like autosubstitution, etc).

Signing up for qualification games:

We also require you to sign up for the qualification games.

To do so, write an email to  at least 1 hour before the first game takes place (i.e. 5pm german time on game day). Use "PSL sign up" as subject to make sure it passes our spam filter. For team modes choose one spokesperson and let this person write the email and do all the further communication for the team. Make sure all players have and use our client during the games!!!

In the e-mail provide the following information:

1on1 modes: Your (already registered!) server-account name and the mode(s) you want to take part in.

Team modes: The name of your clan or mixed team and the (already registered!) server account names of all the 3 (or in CTF 4) players plus one substitute (optional, but highly recommended, as you risk not to be able to play if someone misses!).

Qualification games (last sunday of each month):

The challenger is determined by an everyone-against-everyone match on the last sunday of each month. As the CTF-based modes only allow for two teams the mode will be instagib team for insta CTF and teamplay (= ffa team) for CTF in these matches. In capture the all-vs-all is played in Tactics-team mode to avoid that teams hinder other teams on purpose. All modes are played 10 minutes, but the game gets extended for another minute as often as necessary until the result of the best 5 players/teams differs for at least one frag each. After this the best 4 teams/players play "quick games" (5 minutes) against each other (rank1 vs rank3; rank2 vs. rank4, winners against each other). The player/team who was ranked higher in the all-vs-all game picks good/evil if possible in that mode. The ultimate winner gets to challenge the titleholder in the title game. If there is no current titleholder or the current titleholder is blocked, the last two players/teams are qualified and the last "quick game" decides who gets the right of mapchoice for the first map in the Title Match.

If there are only 3 teams/players there is just a quick game among the best two of the all-vs-all game, if there are only 2 teams/players there is only one "quick game", if there is only one team/player registered there is no qualification game, but the player/team becomes challenger right away.

In team modes every clan may only send one team to a qualification game.

The maps that are played in qualification games are subject to changes every month. See this page for the current ones.

Title Matches (first sunday of each month):

The same rules for ALL modes:

System: "Best of 3": There are 3 games at maximum. Whoever wins 2 games first is the new Champion. There is no tie. If a result would be a tie at the end of the time, there is either a sudden death (all games with flags) or the time gets extended for another minute as often as necessary until someone wins (all other games, including Qualification games without flags).

The titleholder (or the one who won the right of mapchoice) chooses the first map, after that the loser of any round chooses the subsequent map. In CTF and iCTF modes the player/team who does not choose the map picks the team (good or evil).  You can only choose maps that can be found in the game's menu and work with the respective mode (= have the right entities for it). The Titleholder and the Challenger have to name 3 maps from that pool each - and those 3 maps are then the only ones (s)he/they may choose from in the Title Match. The Titleholder has to let the refs know BEFORE the respective qualification game takes place and the challenger has to name the maps right after (s)he/they qualified. After each Qualification game the Refs will let the respective opponent know about the mapchoice - so they know. If someone fails to name the maps in time the Refs will name 3 random maps instead. No map that has already been chosen during any "best of 3" match may be chosen for a second time.

Who does not show up within 10 Minutes after the set time (logged in and with the PSL anti-cheat-client running!) loses the match. If both don't show up both don't get the title and 2 players/teams may qualify at the following qualification games. A game may be postponed if both players/teams and one of the referees mutually agree on it. This agreement has to happen before the match is supposed to take place. If something unexpected happens which forces you to be too late your opponent may decide whether he wants the match to take place later or win by "no show". (You'll have to be persuasive...). Postponed games have to be staged within 14 days after the title match.

If you want to play the title match with a different team than the last title-match or qualification game, send an email before 5 pm on game day to make sure we know. We will also try to ask, but its safer for you to send an email (do it just like described above / signing up).

Substitutes

When registering for a certain team-mode for the qualification games you may specify one(!) substitute. You may also do so in the title match. The substitute is just a spectator as long noone of the players disconnect or spec themselfes.

The substitute automatically replaces any teammember that diconnects (voluntarily or unvoluntarily).

Mixed Teams

In team modes you may play as a clan or a mixed team no matter if you are in a clan or not. Teams that consist only of players from one single clan but play under a different team name are not allowed. Not more than half of the players may be from a clan that is the current Titleholder in the next Title Match (i.e. 1 out of 3 in Capture and iCTF, 2 out of 4 in CTF). If you become Challenger or Titleholder with a mixed team, you may only play for the mixed team in the following titlematch(es), even if your clan is qualified too.

Title Holder

Who wins the title match becomes titleholder and is automatically qualified for the next title match to defend the title, unless the titleholder won for the 3rd time in a row (see below, "Grand Champion"). There is no award or price except an entry in the hall of fame. :-P

Grand Champion

If you win the title for three times you become Grand Champion. Again, nothing to win except for an entry in the Hall of fame. :-P
All individual players who actually played in one of the three title matches are blocked for the subsequent title match in this mode.

General

Players and Teams have to be polite. Insulting may be sentenced by being set to spectator for a few seconds.

Games can be replayed if unexpected things/bugs appear, e.g. the flag-score-bug.

Unsportsmanlike behavior can lead to replay, disqualification, or even a ban for the subsequent game(s), including, but not limited to: Losing games on purpose, not spawning for more then 10 seconds, use of bugs/glitches, disconnecting on purpose.

It is YOUR duty to be on the server in time, with the right client running and to be logged in! If one of the three requirements are not met at ten minutes past the scheduled time we won't let you play. If one of your teammates is missing or does not refill the requirements at that point of time, we will take the substitute you provided when signing up instead. If two should be missing or not meet the requirements your team will not take part.

Cheating

Cheating is not allowed. We require you to use the standard and unmodified files of Cube2/Sauerbraten as they are made available on sauerbraten.org unless this provision explicitely allows you to alter, add, or exchange files. To monitor cheating, we also require you to use our precompiled binary (download and instructions: here) that communicates with our server during a PSL game and includes mechanisms to check that its unaltered and no other means of cheats are used. The binary can and will often be exchanged. It is your duty to make sure you have the latest client and check for that on each game day(!) and less than 2 hours prior(!) to the games. If You fail to use the client or use an outdated version you will be set to spectator and can not take part in the games!

Cube 2 / Sauerbraten is open source and allows for a lot of individual modifications. We know that everyone has a different personal threshold of whats cheating or not. The definition of cheating for PSL games draws a line between what we can check for without having to spend our whole day on developing cheat prevention and whats really necessary to make sure its only the players movements and shots. We hope you understand. Make sure to check Quadropolis.us as they provide a lot of scripts, models or sounds that you may find useful.

What you are allowed to:
- use keybinds
- use "sauerbraten scripts" (e.g. scripts that change weapons when you zoom, change FOV, sensitivity, crosshairsize)
- alter values that the engine offers to change (such as /texreduce, /showboundingbox, /maxroll)
- add or alter files that contain plain text, such as cfg's
- exchange or alter jpg files (eg. textures)
- exchange or alter sounds
- exchange or alter the hudgun or player models

What you are NOT allowed to:
- use any other binary instead of the ones we provide or alter them in any way
- use any code, software or device that influences your natural aiming, movement or your shooting in any way
- load external libraries and/or add any functionality to the PSL client
- alter and/or modify maps (ie. the .ogz-file)
- alter and/or modify any fog or lighting of maps by any means

Cheating leads to loss of the game, disqualification and/or a ban for a certain period of time or even lifetime. The individual ruling depends on the circumstances of each case.
